Elizabeth (Betsy) Herrelko
Researcher
Betsy is an Honorary Research Associate of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the Postgraduate Research Student working on The Chimpcam Project. She earned her Masters in Psychology with a concentration in Animal Behaviour and Conservation from Hunter College-CUNY in New York. Though she initially hoped to dedicate her research studies to ungulates, she was afforded the opportunity to segue into studying squirrel monkeys for her thesis “Effects of Environmental and Demographic Changes on Social Behavior Within a Captive Troop of Squirrel Monkeys (Saimiri sciureus).” It was in the midst of preparing this thesis that her interest in primates was cemented.
Before moving to Scotland, Betsy spent two years with the Gorilla Foundation in California, working in gorilla care, research, and operations. She is honored to have the chance to work with the staff and chimps of Budongo Trail.
